Gannett Digital’s custom players were part of their comprehensive solution to unify the diverse brand and content assets of its broadcast and newsprint channels under an ease of use from the end-user perspective.
East Vision Systems collaborated with Maven Networks and Gannett to design, develop, configure and launch a number of custom players, such as Gannet Immersive and Ad Meter.
The Gannett Immersive was one of the most advanced custom players we ever built. We faced a significant number of challenges, including a very restrictive delivery schedule.
Running on top of the Maven Internet TV Platform (MITVP), the player was supporting a complete set of media capabilities. Among others, the player was supporting:
- Both progressive download and live streaming.
- Multiple playlist groups and playlists, with interactive navigation.
- Search, ratings, sharing options, on-the-fly playlists.
- Dynamic customization. Using the Maven Internet TV Platform, the publishers can change the template style and colors, or turn on/off features.
- Custom advertising through pre-roll video ads and companion banners that may be synched.
- Ad-targeting based on player, playlist, content source, user behavior and genre.
- Custom ad connector built for Open Ad Stream (OAS).
- A tracking mechanism through Gannett’s Omniture Web Analytics and Web Trends.
- Content integration through multiple affiliates.
The Gannett players were running on top of the MITVP, powered by Maven Networks (acquired by Yahoo!). MITVP was providing ways for content management and dynamic customization.
